The idea of Iranian Encyclopedia of Curriculum (IEC) came into existence in 2010 by a group of experts in the field of curriculum studies at Iranian Curriculum Studies Association. They then formed a scientific committee headed by Prof. Mehrmohammadi and active participation of Prof. Zahra Gooya, Prof. Hasan Maleki, Prof. Nematollah Mousapour,A/Professor Mohammad Attaran, Prof. Koroush Fathi Vajargah. The committee developed a theoretical framework to include all important topics in the field of curriculum. The framework included 22 main themes for some of which, there were sub-themes. Here are the main themes:

2) Foundations of curriculum
3) Curriculum Policy
4) Curriculum design
5) Curriculum development
6) Curriculum implementation
7) Curriculum evaluation
8) Theories and ideologies
9) Curriculum research
10) History of Curriculum
11) Types and levels of curriculum
12) Curriculum in different levels of formal education
13) Curriculum of learning areas and school subjects
14) Curriculum for children with special needs
15) Teacher education curriculum
16) Contemporary issues in curriculum studies
17) Curriculum and ICT
18) Innovative curriculum cases (national and international)
19) Curriculum model of different educational systems in the world
20) Key curriculum figures (national and international)
21) Important curriculum documents (national and international)
22) Curriculum institutions and publications (national and international)
Around 800 entries were proposed under the above mentioned themes and content guide was developed for each entry for the authors to write aligned with the intended lines. During the past 10 years, some of the entries were added or omitted and now the encyclopedia has 600 entries. It should be noted that scholars are free to propose entries and it is estimate that the current entry limit will be passed soon.
